Benefits to Employers

Home / Benefits to Employers

We live in a global economy – no one has to tell you that. To move your business forward means you’ve got to have the best-trained, most productive, “high-tech” and skilled workers. How do you accomplish that – without diverting critical employees, starting up yet another training initiative – or breaking your budget? An apprenticeship may be the answer.

WHY CAN'T WE JUST SEND OUR EMPLOYEES TO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE?

You can, and in the absence of other options, perhaps you should. But sending your employees to night-school isn't the same as a certified, supervised apprenticeship program .

APPRENTICESHIPS – VS. TRAINING PROGRAMS

For highly-skilled trades – like the machinist and automotive/transportation skill building programs AMTAC offers – apprenticeship offers several advantages over other training methods, including:

  • Cross-training and up-skilling your existing (junior) workforce
  • Improving employee-attraction and retention: all else equal – employees prefer employers who offer career advancement potential
  • Addressing the skills shortage from retiring and aging workers
  • Low cost: at $1,500/yr per apprentice, plus tuition books and fees of about $400 to $500 a year – a typical 4 year AMTAC apprenticeship is one of industry's best values
  • Recruiting higher-skilled employees is time-consuming, very costly and not always do you get the candidate you need on the first-try
  • AMTAC apprenticeships are supervised – we track college attendance, instructor and student performance; we track on-the-job supervision and performance, and we offer industry's leading certification programs – to assure your apprentice masters relevant skills that are critical to job performance
  • Offsite training, seminars or 'intensive study courses' don't offer the depth and breadth of experience of a 4-year program, 8,000 hours of on-the-job supervision, or over 500 hours of specialized classroom/shop instruction

AMTAC PROGRAMS ARE CERTIFIED AND PROVEN THROUGH ALMOST 20 YEARS AND 500 GRADUATES

Through our predecessor organizations – California Tooling & Machining Apprenticeship Association, and California Automotive Apprenticeships – we've graduated almost 500 apprentices – many today are running their shops.

We are certified by the State of California Division of Apprenticeship Standards – and by the US Department of Labor as a "Registered Apprenticeship."
